Job description
What we need you to tackle
We’re looking for a senior backend engineer with 5+ years of experience shipping production Node.js APIs, strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, and real-world AWS experience with deployments, CI/CD, and containers. You should be comfortable debugging systems you didn’t build, integrating with third-party services, and making pragmatic engineering decisions in a small team. Clear communication, strong ownership, and the ability to collaborate closely with web and mobile engineers are essential, along with the judgment to grow into a backend lead role over time.

Your day-to-day
Maintain and improve the Node.js Hapi API and PostgreSQL database.
Investigate production issues end to end, from reproduction through logs and queries to the final fix.
Build and support partner integrations such as wearable data ingestion, subscription webhooks, deep-link tracking, and SSO between apps.
Improve backend performance by identifying slow endpoints and removing N+1 queries.
Maintain AWS deployments, security basics, and monitoring across ECS/Fargate, Lambda, API Gateway, and RDS.
Keep API documentation and shared Postman collections accurate and up to date.
Nice to haves
- Identify and fix slow endpoints and N+1 patterns; apply caching, batching, and profiling to reduce tail latencies and costs.
- Instrument services with metrics, logs, and dashboards (CloudWatch, Grafana) and set actionable alerts to catch regressions early.
- Apply least-privilege IAM, secure secrets management, and safe API practices to protect data and integrations in a health-tech context.
